Ashland Hiking Home

Monday's hike by the Ashland Hiking Group was the first hike of Spring by the calendar, although we've had signs for the past month. We chose a pleasant hike out at Lost Creek Lake to the Blus Grotto.

The trail from Lewis Road off Highway 62 was clear with no deadfall trees blocking the path. And, the weather was good, partly sunny with temperatures ranging from high 50s to low 70s.

The trail down from the trailhead goes through forests of Madrones, Manzanitas, and White Oaks, with views of the Lake in open spaces.

Along the path, you'll see wildflowers coming up. Among them are Shooting Stars, Fawn Lilies, Butter Cups, Hound's Tongue, and Scarlet Bells.

We arrived at the sign for Blue Grotto just before noon and took the rocky but dry trail up to the Grotto. The seasonal waterfall was mostly done, with just a trickle and drops falling into the small pond at the bottom.

Nine in our group decided to hike down and enjoy lunch at the base of the falls.

After lunch, we hiked back to the TH and arrived at 1:30 PM after a 10 AM start.

The hike was less than 5 miles with about 300' of gain.
